Helping You Navigate Life

Therapy for adults in chicago

Adulting is hard, even when you’ve been at it for a while.

You thought your life was on track, but recently things have turned upside down. Maybe you've experienced a traumatic event, a loss, or watched a loved one struggle with mental health or addiction. Now you're feeling overwhelmed, burned out, and exhausted.

You might still be functioning—no one has noticed anything's wrong—but you don't feel like yourself. You're anxious, short-tempered, or can't seem to relax. You tell yourself you should be able to "move on," but you've reached the end of your coping skills and still can't "just get over it."

You've always been the one taking care of others, so needing help feels confusing, even like failure. But major life events—loss of a loved one, divorce, upheaval at work—aren't just about what happens. They shake your sense of who you are, shatter your certainty, and leave you picking up pieces you didn't even know had broken.

And that’s where I can help.

Hi, I’m Laura Adams, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults in transition.

I have over 30 years of experience across inpatient and outpatient treatment centers, employee assistance programs, large corporations and nonprofits. This breadth has given me the ability to respond effectively to a wide range of challenges.

I believe your strengths are just as important—if not more so—than whatever you're struggling with. I'm here to help you rediscover yours and even develop some new ones. That feeling of being stuck doesn't mean you're broken. It's telling you that something in your life isn't working, and it's time to make a change.

Using a solutions-focused approach rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we'll work together to slow down that spinning-out-of-control feeling. We'll help you unclench your jaw, take a breath, and see things more clearly so you can make choices that work for you—in your work, relationships, and other areas of your life.

If you're struggling to keep it together, reach out to schedule a consultation. We will find your way toward a place where life feels manageable again.
